The Porcelain Veneers Procedure – Lansing
At Smiles by Stone, we believe that the best kind of a patient is a patient who is well informed and has realistic expectations about his or her dental treatment. That’s why we like to take time with each of our patients to ensure they know what to expect during each step of their treatment process. We’d like to provide a brief overview of the porcelain veneers procedure so patients throughout the Lansing area know what to expect. Dr. Scott Stone can address further concerns about porcelain veneers in person during your office visits.
The Initial Consultation for Porcelain Veneers
Before we even consider porcelain veneers as a treatment, the first thing we have to do is make sure you’re a good candidate for porcelain veneers. That means assessing the health of your teeth as well as your dental problem. The best candidates for porcelain veneers are patients who are generally in good dental health and have teeth that are healthy despite any minor dental damage that needs to be addressed.
In some cases, another dental treatment may be much more ideal for you than porcelain veneers. Dr. Stone will be sure to discuss these options with you so that you can make the best informed decision about your dental health possible.
The First Appointment for Getting Porcelain Veneers
In order for a porcelain veneer to be placed, a small amount of tooth enamel (roughly half a millimeter) needs to be removed. This tooth structure will be lightly buffed away, and patients will experience no discomfort during this process. Next, an impression will be made of the prepped tooth so that the porcelain veneer can be custom created just for you.
The porcelain veneer will be crafted in a dental lab, which means that in the interim, patients will be given a temporary veneer to wear during this process. These temporary veneers will not look as good as your final veneers when they are placed. Dr. Stone will give you some care instructions for your temporary veneers to keep in mind.
Placement of the Final Porcelain Veneers
Once the final veneers are crafted and received at our practice, you’ll come back in to our Lansing practice to get your porcelain veneers placed. During this visit, the temporary veneers are removed and the permanent porcelain veneers are positioned in place. Final adjustments to fit and appearance will be made at this point to ensure that your smile looks its absolute best.
